Jake Ross and The Mob of Mayhem

One approach is not to get attacked. This requires two big and uncommon characteristics: vigilance and common sense. Vigilance not being of the paranoid, who's hiding behind the curtain variety, but rather the where am I and what's happening around me brand. This is not a matter of glaring like you're trying to win a staring contest. You just need to think about what you're seeing and doing.

What's the scariest thing in the world? Public speaking.

The next scariest? Naked street luge.

Third scariest? Getting attacked by a mob.

Here's some ideas on how to survive that third scariest thing in the world, a mob attack.

As you've probably learned, common sense is the rarest thing in these parts. It used to be that when someone went into a tough bar and thought they smelled trouble, they'd hightail it out of the pub before the shooting began. Nowadays people tend to go in for "atmosphere", imbibing at establishments that just one short generation ago would have been shunned by the felony squad.

Now, just for an example, let's pretend you've fouled up badly. You didn't listen to Jake and even attempt vigilance or common sense. I should just leave you, that would learn you. But no, I'm gonna stick this out until you're home safe or I've finished writing this, whichever comes first.

Running away is very good. What kind of shape are you in? Can you sprint more than fifty yards without involving the coroner? Almost anyone can get into decent shape given the will, the knowledge and the time. What do you wear? Can you move well in it?

Escaping from places is something you should give some thought. (Feel free to give it more thought if you're presently confined.) What's the nearest exit? The next two exits? When you parked your car, did you give any thought to how you'll quickly leave? How long will it take you to get out into traffic and away from the deadly den of danger you thought would make a for a colorful evening? (Quick question for you. I've just asked you four questions. How many of them can you answer about the last time you were out on the town? The goal is to be able to answer FOUR someday, soon.)

The last option is to end up fighting the mob. Maybe this is doable, particularly if you define mob as two or fewer people. Ground fighting is NOT an option. As a Wise Man once said, if they have any friends you can sure bet they won't be kicking them. You need to strike and move on quickly to the next mobster. The best way of training for this is to learn some fighting art. You need to be able to defeat the individuals one at a time to win against them as a group.

So, there we are. Everything you need to survive a mob attack. And, I even have a little space to talk about
