My first experience Camping

There’s Bears in them there Hills, or so I Thought!

My first experience camping was a very memorable one.  I had never been camping before I met my husband.  I didn’t know that camping meant sleeping out in nature, in a tent.  Thinking back I guess I didn’t really think about it at all.

We were off to a nearby campground, we drove in and paid for our site and it was just beautiful, there were ducks and a small lake and up on the hill there was a pool and small store if you needed anything.

At dusk we lit our fire and wow what a difference in the day and night when you are camping, the night seems darker and the day seems so short.  The fire was very nice and pleasant, however having a small allergy problem with mosquitoes, that there was a horrible night.  I hate bugs, and mosquitoes seem to be the worse, due to their stinging and being pesky.  It was awful, but the camp fire was nice and I tried to reminisce about when my husband was small and his camping stories.

After a full night of stories and fire, we settled in out tent.  Oh my! I thought.  Where do we sleep?  Well in our sleeping bags on the ground.  To my surprise, the ground was ok, and we had a small air mattress under us so it was ok.  Well it wasn’t the Ritz but it was camping.

Then in the middle of the night I heard scuffling just out our tent.  I woke my husband and told him there was a bear in our camp.  He told me to just go back to sleep.  I really didn’t know there were no bears in local camp grounds.

The next morning I woke to the same noises and found the culprits…It was ducks.  I felt so stupid, a bear...gee what was I thinking?  To this day we still chuckle about my first camping trip.
