In the backdrop of the dreaded Blueline buses being involved in accidents in the capital, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said the private buses will be taken off the roads in a phased manner.

"Blueline buses will be removed from Delhi roads in a phased manner," Dikshit told reporters on the sidelines of a function.

She, however, did not specify any time-frame for phasing out the Blueline buses that are run by private operators.

She said the buses could not be taken off the roads immediately as it would lead to the problem of unemployment. Dikshit said the Blueline buses will be replaced by low-floor high-capacity buses.

A teenager was crushed to death and at least two others were injured in a massive traffic pile-up triggered by an over-speeding Blueline bus on Sunday.

About 12 vehicles, including cars, the bus and two-wheelers, were involved in the pile-up in Rajouri Garden locality of West Delhi.
