The government has said it will set up a task force with industry body CII and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) to seek private participation in the power equipment manufacturing sector.

"A task force is needed for monitoring the situation and we have agreed to CII's proposal to constitute it in partnership with the industry," Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on the sidelines of a power conference at New Delhi.

As this is a very important issue the ministry will "soon" constitute the task force. It will come into force in a month or two, he added.

CEA chairman Rakesh Nath said the move would attract and facilitate more private funds into the power equipment manufacturing sector.
