Tips To Get Medical Sales Jobs
As a Medical Sales recruiter, I have seen many candidates walk through my doors over the years. With this I have of course read many applications and covering letters. If you are either trying to break into the industry, or move upwards within it without success, it may well be due to your application.
As I said earlier, the market is extremely competitive and in truth, unless your application is of a high standard, you won’t even make it to an interview.
So to begin with you need to ensure that your initial application is of a very high standard. The best way of doing this is to carefully alter or construct a CV for each position that you are applying for. Your CV may not need to be tampered with too much for each job that you apply for, but you will usually find that as job descriptions vary, some information on your CV will also need to.
The same goes for your covering letter. Sending out the same letter will do you no favours at all as this is usually more important in the eyes of many recruiters. Your covering letter has to be tailored specifically to the job description of the vacancy being advertised. If it isn’t the recruiter will struggle to associate you as a suitable candidate and will not want to invite you to an interview.
The interview itself is sometimes a daunting affair to many candidates. Like many things in life, your interview technique will improve with experience, so if you are applying for jobs and getting invited to interviews, you know that you are half way there!
Many interviews for similar positions will usually include the same questions. If you can, try and remember what questions you are asked in an interview and write them down. This way you can work on your answers in preparation for future interviews. This will help you compete with more experienced candidates who have been through the recruitment process more times than you.
A word of warning though, make sure that you don’t exaggerate any of your achievements in an interview as medical sales recruiters are well known for their stringency when it comes to checking information. They will look up all of the key facts and even figures of the achievements you have told them. So make sure that you only tell the truth!
You will be surprised at the amount of people that have tried to lie a little in an interview and think they will get away with it. It may be the case in some industries, but when it comes to Medical Sales Jobs, it’s a definite “don’t do!”
