Changing Your Attire For Graduate Jobs

When you’re a student in University you can pretty much wear whatever item of clothing that you want to. You can wear the scruffiest of jumpers and jeans that should have been thrown out long before you put them on and in truth, you wouldn’t look out of place.

However when you have graduated from University and you begin to think seriously about landing a full time graduate job, it will be time for you to change your dressing habits.

To start with, like it or not your going to need to own a suit. Well in reality your going to need to own more than one suit, as there will be a time that you need an alternative one.

If you already own a suit, take a good long look at it. If it was a cheap purchase, then in the eyes of a graduate employer, it’s going to look like one and will not give a good impression.

Suits are far more accessible and less expensive than days gone by so there is no excuse for not owning a quality suit. You don’t need to spend a fortune, but it is always recommended that you purchase the best looking suit that you can afford. If you can’t afford to buy two new suits before you receive your first pay packet, make sure you purchase one with your first one!

To go with your suit, you will need to purchase a selection of shirts to wear. Again like suits, shirts are far less expensive than they once were. If you are going to work a five day week, ideally you will need around three of four shirts to get you through. Before you think that you can, you can’t wear the same shirt all week long. It’s not hygienic and let’s face it, you wouldn’t wear the same t-shirt for up to ten hours every day for a week would you?!

Buy a variety of colours for your shirts and a selection of ties to match. This way you will look different throughout the week and of course you can add to your attire as you get more pay packets.

So you have your new suits, shirts and ties, what’s left? Well it’s simple, a good pair of shoes. Shoes are vital as despite what you think, people do notice them and will even make a point of looking to see what footwear you have on!

So purchase a good pair of shoes to complete your outfit and you will be more than ready to make the transition from the student life to that of a full time working career.
