Is your coin dealer registered with PNG?

PNG, as you will find out is short for the Professional Numismatists Guild. Since that’s rather a mouthful, in true American style it’s been shortened to PNG. You might be wondering why you want to know if your dealer is registered with PNG, and it’s very simple really.

PNG doesn’t allow just anybody and everybody onto their registers, and even those who enter are subjected to a very thorough checkup and are subject to very strict rules of regulation. In fact worldwide there aren’t more than 500 PNG members.

This might seem like a very large number, but when you look into the reality of it, it’s not. And this is really all for the best. This way the bar for entrance is high and any dealer who’s allowed to join the guild will be amongst the top of coin dealers.

And that’s why you should ideally check to find out whether the dealer you’re going with is a member of PNG. And if not a member of PNG, which other coin or numismatist association are they with.

There are many such associations but being a member of any of these other associations isn’t necessarily a selling point in their favor. The association should be one of good repute and one that the coin community in general thinks highly of, even if it’s not the PNG.
