The growth of online advertising has reached the jobs market and has changed it significantly. In the past many companies would spend thousands of pounds each week advertising their recruitment vacancies in the national press in an attempt to reach as many potential candidates as possible.
Over the last few years and more the popularity of the Internet has reached heights that few would have predicted. The popularity has reached many different types of business which wants to advertise their services, who now spend a lot more of their budget advertising online compared to other forms of the media. Based on what many other companies are doing with their online advertising budgets, it surprises me at times when I look at the fact that many recruitment companies are neglecting this area. Advertising recruitment vacancies online should be one of the most critical elements of a modern advertising budget, after all who doesn’t look online for jobs?

The growth of online advertising has reached the jobs market and has changed it significantly. In the past many companies would spend thousands of pounds each week advertising their recruitment vacancies in the national press in an attempt to reach as many potential candidates as possible. Online advertising is available at the fraction of the cost and has been proven to be as effective. In many ways it has levelled the playing field to a certain extent and has allowed many smaller companies, or even individuals to become successful.

When it comes to jobs boards, they are essentially divided into two categories. The first one is the bigger jobs board which displays vacancies for many different sectors. These are often heavily branded and marketable. The second type is a sector or industry specific jobs board. The second type of jobs board is likely to have far less registered users than a more general website, but more often than not the amount of quality candidates is likely to be better in comparison. On the other hand with the main jobs boards, you are going to get your advert viewed more times.

Despite there only essentially being two categories of jobs website, there are plenty of websites online all trying to get you to sign up to them. When you are looking at them, try not to fall for any sales pitch that is presented to you. One of the most common claims usually relates to the level of traffic that the websites receive, although this may be impressive, a general jobs website will have a lot of traffic from people that won’t want to look at your vacancies. You need to take it all into perspective and ideally arrange a free trial!
