The U.S. Embassy in Cyprus has confirmed that a senior diplomat has been found dead four days after being reported missing on the Mediterranean island.

The U.S. Embassy in Cyprus has confirmed that a senior diplomat has been found dead four days after being reported missing on the Mediterranean island.

A statement from U.S. Ambassador Ronald Schlicher confirmed that a body found in the remote Lefka region west of the capital, Nicosia, is that of 45-year-old Defense Attache Thomas Mooney. He said the cause of death remains under investigation.

Mooney was last seen leaving the U.S. embassy in Nicosia on Thursday afternoon.
