The weather office has recorded 174 mm of rain, while the city experienced 189 mm rainfall the previous day, caused by formation of a low pressure area over North-East Bay of Bengal.
The weatherman predicted heavy rainfall in entire Gangetic West Bengal in next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, life in the metropolis was seriously affected for the second day with Tuesday night's rains compounding the situation even as the civic body struggled to drain out accumulated water with its 20 pumps.
Rain water which clogged most of the city links almost disrupted surface transport with trams out of service for the second day today.
Train services on both Eastern and South-eastern Railways in Sealdah and Howrah divisions continued to be affected due to overtopped tracks forcing either short-termination or cancellation of some of the trains, railway sources said.
The Circular rail services continued to be affected for the second day but the Metro services plied.
Seven members of a family died when their hut collapsed in the rains at Nohazari village in South 24 Parganas district and a housewife was killed in house collapse in the same district. One person was electrocuted at Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas, while another was killed in house collapse in the metropolis.
