HC adjourns hearing of case against Lalu-Rabri acquittal

The Patna High Court adjourned till 8th August the hearing of Bihar Government's petition challenging acquittal of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and his former Chief Minister wife Rabri Devi in a  disproportionate assets case against them.

Justice R K Dutta accepted the joint appeal of C R Sinha, counsel for the Lalu-Rabri duo and state's standing counsel Akhileshwar Prasad Singh, who sought adjournment of the case till 8th August.

Earlier, Sinha submitted a reply on behalf of his clients to the court's notice seeking to know their position on the petition filed by the state challenging their acquittal in DA case.

The Bihar Government had on 19th February filed a petition in the Patna High Court against the acquittal of Prasad and Rabri devi.

The disproportionate assets case, filed over seven years ago, charged Lalu with amassing assets worth Rs 46 lakh beyond his known sources of income when he was Bihar Chief Minister between 1990 and 1997. Rabri Devi was made a co-accused for allegedly abetting the commission of the offence.

The two were acquitted by the trial court on 18th December.
