The History of Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy are one of the biggest bands on the scene right now -- but they didn't just appear out of nowhere. The band has a long history -- get to know them better.
Fall Out Boy came together in Illinois in 2001. The founding members were bassist Pete Wentz (formerly of Arma Angelus) and guitarist Joe Trohman. They met Patrick Stump, who auditioned as the band's drummer, but ultimately became the lead singer and guitarist. The band, with a different original lineup, self-released their first LP, Evening Out With Your Girlfriend before settling on their current lineup, which was the recipe for success.

The band's music has been called everything from pop punk to emo. The band, unlike many in the genre, have no problem with the title, and have said they'd happily play in front of a banner displaying the word.

In 2003, the band was signed to the elite Fueled by Ramen label and released Take This To Your Grave. The album had some hit singles, including "Grand Theft Autumn" and "Saturday," which led to the band being picked up by a major label for From Under the Cork Tree, their breakthrough album. The album has sold millions of copies to date, thanks to successful singles including "Sugar, We're Going Down" and "Dance Dance." The band toured extensively and began to pick up fans en masse. Bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz is often the focus of this, for his good looks, outgoing personality, and endless ability to charm the press.

In 2007, the band released their second major label album, Infinity on High. The album received both critical acclaim and sales success, and has spawned four hit singles for the band. In 2007, they were also the talk of the town, largely due to Pete Wentz making the jump from underground superstar to tabloid headliner, largely due to his relationship with Ashlee Simpson.

Many people wrongfully assume that Pete Wentz is the band's lead singer, but rather, he is the lyricist, bassist, and does some backing vocals.

The band's current lineup is:
Patrick Stump - Vocals and Guitar
Pete Wentz - Bass and Vocals
Joe Trohman - Guitar
Andy Hurley - Drums

The band is also involved in many causes. Pete Wentz often speaks about depression and bipolar disorder, though he mostly spends his time advocating the charity Invisible Children. The band has also worked with PETA, as well.

Fall Out Boy fans are a devoted bunch, as noted by the band's merchandise, which includes CDs, DVDs, t-shirts, hoodies, collectible, and even downloadable ringtones. Because their fans are so dedicated, they almost compete to see who can have the most stuff from/featuring the band, in order to be the biggest fans! Not many bands can enjoy this kind of fame... no wonder Fall Out Boy seems to be sitting on top of the world!
